As
part of a
discussion on the Real
Women have Curves Yahoo list, there was a suggestion that members
could recommend doctors that they found to be "fat - friendly"
This idea is
based on a similar list, based in the
U.S. maintained by Stef Maruch.
This list is not
restricted to members- if you would like to contribute, email the webmaster and the details
will be included. Practitioners, fat or not, we'd love to hear
from
you. This is a way of the size community helping one another to stay
healthy, regardless of size.
Criteria for
recommending doctors.
- We are looking for doctors who focus on the patient's health.
- This means not recommending any weight loss surgery or medication
based weight loss programs.
- This means as a practitioner, not focusing on the patients
weight when diagnosing a health problem that is not weight related.
- Most important, when dealing with weight related health issues,
they are compassionate and supportive.
Once there are
some more entries, I will divide it into states, cities or
specialisations- but for now, it will just be listings.

Always professional and went the extra distance, never seeming rushed - even when he had a waiting room full of patients, he ended every consultation with "and is there anything else?". My weight was never
an issue; when I spoke with him about starting an exercise program he
was very supportive, and didn't bring up weight loss as a benefit, but
talked about improved fitness and well-being.
I'm a nurse, and a couple of Dr Demaio's patients were admitted to my
ward (GPs are listed on the admission. In at least one case he caught a rare and potentially fatal condition in the really early stages.

I went to Dr. O'Dempsey for many years and he was always very
professional. With most health problems, weight was not an issue and
therefore not brought up, but when specialist recommended I lose
weight Dr. O'Dempsey was very supportive and also referred me to a
dietitian for assistance.

make a note that if you're a new patient, you do need to book a fair
way ahead to get an appointment with her, but it's worth the wait. No
bulk billing, but discounted rates for Health Care Card holders.
