Sunburn….

Date January 28, 2006

I’ve been a busy little blogger this week, there must be work I should be doing :)
It’s true, I’ve been procrastinating all week, but what a lovely way to do it, reflecting on my thoughts and feelings.

Instead of having my lazy Saturday to plan today, I had to go to a family reunion instead. It was a tad strange really. You see, once upon a time, I was great with strangers- I’d happily talk all day, but as I’ve become older I’m not so good. I tend to avoid talking to people I don’t know and can be a little backward in conversation. Today, though I tried.

My second- cousin, I think, organised a get-together of my grandmother’s family: her remainging siblings, their children, grandchildren and in some cases, great grand children. It was at Sandgate, near the beach. From what my Dad told me, it would be resonably quiet and over by lunchtime. It was huge. There would have been at least 30 people, all in this one shade area. Heaps of my Dad’s cousins, uncles, aunts and various spouses. Far too many people- my Gran, who’s 88, deaf and has had a stroke was happy, but after a few hours was overwhelmed. Dad was in his element- flitting, talking, joking, showing off me and my brother. Me, I talked to a few second cousins, had a grand chat with Cora (a second cousin’s wife) about her life in Mt Isa in the 80s and got sunburnt.

Looking at all the Greensils there, I’m sure I still had some of the palest skin. Damn genes: even when I’m with people of the same genetic make-up I’m still the one to get burnt!
