Well, it’s getting late on a Sunday afternoon, and there’s still a pile of marking staring at me. I’m feeling rather chipper thought- because I’ve worked my way through a paralysing number of tabs on my desktop.
It might seem strange to suggested that a number of links to website would leave me lost, but they have, for weeks. I’ve had them there- cluttering up firefox, while below, I do my current work.
That’s as far as I can explain, but I feel incredibly unburdened by doing so.
I’ve also done a few other (computing) odd jobs to day, including setting up and redirecting the team website-<a href="http://www.skullcollectors.net> www.skullcollectors.net.
I’m also about to fire up the ‘way back machine’ sneakily update, change and add a few entries here and at photoaday for the last few weeks to make it look like my life has not been so boring
See if you can pick the differences.

We spent the first weekend of our holidays ensconced in culture. Well, maybe not ensconced and I might be stretching the definition of culture too, but we got out and saw stuff- which is important. So here is my mini review of our kulcharal weekend.

Friday 4/4- One Man Star Wars We went to the Cremorne for this show, opening night in Brisbane for Charles Ross, who really does an amazing show. Our friends brought their kiddies and we were a little concerned that it might be a bit “adult” for them- but no fear. I was expecting it to be a prop comedy show, but instead Ross distilled the three epic films that changed my life (an most of the other people in the room by my guessing) into little over an house, using nothing more than mime and wearing no more than black overalls. I think the fact that most of the audience ‘got’ what he was doing is testament to the power of these films and well has his obvious talent.

Sat 5/4 Grindhouse. After a lovely dinner with Kate (who is taking off to Greece much too soon)- we did something we’ve been waiting over a year for. The big studio promised us the Grindhouse double feature over Easter last year- instead we have waited months for it to be released (on DVD- such sacrilege). Luckily the Dendy got a hold of a print from the US and showed the full package this week. We decided to go for the 9.30 screening, because it was the closest we could get to midnight- which would have been excellent. If you were looking for an art film, you would be greatly disappointed- but if you know the trash and exploitation genre these guys were celebrating, then you would love it. Planet Terror rocked my socks. I found Death Proof a little too ‘Tarrentino-esque’ for my liking- there were too many nods to his writing style, instead of staying true to the genre. That said- the stunts and the chicks were fantastic. I was also a little thrilled to see a cameo from a couple of TXRD girls

Sunday 6/4 Andy Warhol Exhibit- GOMA We finally got to the exhibition before it closed- which was my greatest concern. I’m glad we went- but really I could have spent all day just with the film exhibits. Actually, I think that should have been in the promo stuff for the gallery, so those of use who don’t mind watching long amounts of one thing could spend more time. I was impressed by the range of depth of the artwork that was there- but felt the ephemera for personal things really bought too much into the cult of personality that tends to go with his work. I was impressed with the collection, but really loved the kids guide and activities too, most of all the balloon room- so we got a group shot.

We were meant to picnic at the gallery- but it was pouring rain, so I went and got sozzled on Tony and Bec’s verandah

Even though I”m not going to work this week, doesn’t mean there isn’t work to be done.

I don’t know what it is about me, but for some reason, August always brings changes. Maybe it’s the end of winter, Ekka time, settling into a new financial year (not that anything financial blips my radar, except spending it) or maybe it’s a near spring thing. It’s a metaphorical hankering for warmer weather, dusting down of my life and starting new stuff. Or maybe it’s just I can see some way clear between the madness of midyear and the madness of September.

Last year around August I signed up for my Flixster, Vox and 43 things accounts; the year before I revived/ renovated my original livejournal account, ages ago I started working for FM88 in August.

As you can see from the last couple of posts, this year I’ve started a 365 day photography project to make my online life a little more interactive or interesting. Or at least give me something non work related that I can have control over rather than worrying about those things I don’t.

Which leads me to: do I just post here, or do I set up a a seperate photoblog. The issues being -if these are daily pictures, from my point and shoot, shoudln’t they appear with my daily thoughts? However- would they be better in a purely visual format?

Also- should I post daily? will that be too much to handle? or do I fudge the dates? or do I post a weekly collage each Sunday?

So many questions, so much to organise and so the spring cleaning/organising of my blog/s has begun.

Things may have been a litttle quiet and weird around here lately. Not many posts, reversions to the default theme, broken links and changing presentation. It seems that the Crashing silence domain has been commandeered by pirate monkies and they now rule the site.

That’s actually more exciting than the truth, I have been upgrading wordpress this weekend generally trying to revamp and update the theme (this has quietly and inefficiently going on for weeks- so maybe it is a job for the pirate monkies) and generally bring my posts up to date.

Lessons learned: check your code, don’t code late on a Saturday night, don’t drink and code.

I’m now on (some very busy) holidays- but will get a new theme (not a packaged one) when I have time. In the meantime, enjoy the little birdie, I’ll get used to WordPress 2.2 and we should all get back to normal in the not too distant future.

There’s so much I’ve wanted to do this week- so many opportunities. But I’m such a chicken and I get so paralysed by indecision, I end up doing nothing.

Wednesday, I really wanted to go to Eye Candy for the Broken Hearted’s photo exhibit- I thought about it all day, but in the long run felt too tired and sick to go. Now I’m regretting it

 Â

Tonight- I could have gone to the big roller derby demo (live band and all) or love cats , but instead stayed home with BMB and his D&D mates for a Chinese feast. While the company was great- I could have been out there, having a good time, getting photos and stuff.

I’m also not sure if I’ll put anything into photo comp on Tuesday night- all my stuff is so lame

Instead of doing our usual brooding and planning for the first term of school BMB and I have been social. For the public holiday yesterday, we went to Doug’s- BBQ steak and talked computer, comics and all manner of nerdy things with some of his mates. Then we were even more nerdy and went to GOMA to see the final Beyond Anime session. It wasn’t as good as the before anime exhibition, but I was excited to see the work of Kuroska- because I had heard about him and was excited about his use of photocopy technique. 20 minutes of his program was quite interesting- but the last half hour was tedious and became boring. I was very disappointed.

Nat has been our film companion the last few weeks. She came out last night and today we flew into town to see The Fountain with her. It was quite good- I don’t know what I was expecting, but I liked it. There were parts I found overwhelmingly depressing, but like What Dreams May Come, there were uplifting moments that made it bittersweet.

We are so social and outgoing- we’re even going out to Sunday brekky with Kate tomorrow and maybe another movie. For the last few weeks – this could be my dream life. So why do I have to go back to work?
